This Isn’t Working

It’s time for a new approach to inviting readers to experience my books. History doesn’t bring people to my face-to-face lectures. And writing these missives on WordPress, while fun for me, does not attract a lot of attention. It’s not your fault, dear reader (who mostly isn’t there). The fault is mine.

I need to take a different approach, which I am going to do. To attract more attention from my target audience by making them (you) the subject of my library lectures and online activities. These presentations will have to be about something other than history. They will have to be about you.

My topic for these new presentations will be: mining your life for inspiration and reward. I’ll call it “lifemining” if someone else has not already taken the name. But the idea is: unlocking your creativity for writing, painting, any kind of self-expression by using your personal history, tastes in music, photos, sense memories, whatever sits unused in your mind and your heart.

I’ve just started to explore this idea, but I think it has great potential. And no doubt, I’ll learn a lot that will help me mine my own life for inspiration and reward. The truth about grabbing the attention of today’s audiences is that they’d rather hear about themselves than about events that took place hundreds of years ago. It’s not sad. It’s just reality.
