A Virtual Business

I didn’t imagine when I started writing novels that I was also starting a virtual business enterprise, but that’s what happened. What an amazing experience it is to look for, and find, all these talented people to do things I cannot do for myself: printing, designing the cover, proofreading, editing, social media strategies, artwork, marketing to independent book stores, and technical assistance for preparing slide lectures, among others.

My latest venture I’m trying to do myself, but again with help from a consultant: using Photoshop to develop my own original art for the third book in my series on Louise and her family, tentatively titled THE BEEHIVE.

I’m trying to take photographs I can use as “scenes” from the story, such as landscapes, fashions, and local houses that might resemble those from the period covered in the book. Then I’ll convert these photographs into line drawings that are attractive enough to insert between the chapters and to draw readers more deeply into the story.

We’ll see how it works. Meantime, I’m having fun and learning things I never thought I’d get involved in when I wrote my first paragraph of a novel.
