Too Many Guns

In my sequel to A FALSE DAWN, Louise, my main character, has to deal with getting rifles for her family and friends, so they can protect themselves in the wilderness of 1740s America, where there was no law or police to protect people. Some folks think that America is still like that today.

Look at the craziness taking place in Virginia. Thousands of gun-carrying fools will converge on Richmond, many of them white supremacists, and many looking for a fight. The Federal Aviation Administration, of all agencies, has issued temporary flight restrictions for airspace over Richmond because they’re worried about threats to the event from – get this – weaponized drones.

Is this nuts? Unlike the characters in my upcoming novel, we are not living in the lawless 1740s. None of us need all these guns. Researching and writing a novel about the past makes me compared what I’m writing to the present. Have we not progressed any further than this?
