No one does it alone
This week, I had a great idea. Or rather, a friend of mine did, upon which I followed up. Because I can’t come up with all the great ideas myself. I need inspiration from others. Because no one does it alone.
The idea is to recruit college students to use their social media skills to raise awareness about my novel, THE BEEHIVE, which I plan to self-publish in spring 2022. For years I’ve told myself that I would learn to master social media so that I could do any of this awareness-raising myself.
However, I’ve found that there’s no way I can keep up with all the changes in social media. Nor could I figure out how to use it well. It’s just not my game.
So why not find some bright college kids and pay them to do the work that needs to be done, but I’m not suited for? Because no one who wants to succeed at breaking into the fiction market can hope to do it alone.
I’m sure you’re getting the theme of this little essay. I’ve got another year, perhaps, before my book is ready to self-publish. That should be plenty of time to find the kids I need and get them working. I will pay them, of course, and we’ll see what happens.
THE BEEHIVE may not be my last book, but it will probably be my last big attempt to find an audience for my writing. I can’t walk away from my fiction writing until I know I’ve done EVERYTHING I can possibly do to find an audience. If that means using social media, so be it.
