Writing Can Save You
I talk to people all the time about things they’d like to write, if only they had the time. Well, now we do. All of us. I hope some of these people take the opportunity to start the projects they’ve been dreaming about, sometimes for years.
What a joy it is to write. It doesn’t have to be a masterwork or a massive effort. Maybe it’s just an essay or a memory piece. A poem. A manifesto of something you care about deeply. It doesn’t have to be a work of art. It doesn’t even have to be good. It only has to be yours.
Whatever you write does not have to reach millions of people and earn you fame and fortune. Maybe no one but you will ever read it. Perhaps only a few friends or members of your family. The process itself is so enjoyable. That’s what most people who dream about writing often do not understand. You don’t need to write a masterpiece. All you have to do is enjoy the process.
I’ve spent years throwing my heart into screenplays, plays and novels that few if any people may ever read. Thousands upon thousands of hours. The happiest, most joyful hours of my life. There were not five minutes of this time that I did not love. I have no regrets. What else is there to say?
